Proud to share a personal project I've had in the works for 2 weeks, a fully joint-based, matrices constraints only, facial rig, inspired by Ramon Arango's M-Rigs.
Working only with matrices was challenging at first, but then I developed a few tools to help and it was smooth-sailing from there!
A huge focus point was the global and individual scaling : each part of the rig can be scaled for a wide range of customization.
I also replaced my usual ribbon + follicles system by a UV Pin for better perfomance.
I tried to pay special attention to the skinning, I used NG Skin Tools for a non-destructive workflow. Dividing the face into layers made it really easy to correct mistakes and build up the final skinning.
This rig is still a WIP, I plan to add 'fleshy' eyelids, a zipper mouth and correctives blendShapes for more appeal.
